About Me
I am Kristin Van Ess and I am a CO/OP student at the Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design and Concordia University Wisconsin. I am majoring in Interior Architecture and minoring in Marketing. I have wanted to be an Interior Designer since I was a little girl and it has been a dream to be able to go to school for it! I am a very fun, energetic, and outgoing person and my dream is to work in an Architecture firm as an Interior Designer. My goal is to create spaces that are both functional and livable with beautiful design qualities.

Gallun Loft

My client's occupation is a writer. He wanted a space just for his writing, so I created a “fishbowl" study. This study is large glass box in the middle of the room to establish the "spiritual heart of the unit." The study creates a wonderful display of the writers work and also giving the space an open concept. The "fishbowl" is 75% visible in the space with its panoramic views of the entire loft. 25% is a slitted bookshelf that is used from the bedroom and also used from the study. The bookshelf creates privacy for the bedroom which serves as a sanctuary from work.
MIAD Re-Design
2018
In groups, we were given the task to re-design the 3rd and 4th year Interior Architecture and Design classrooms and studios. We were able to talk with the client and get design inputs. After weeks of programing, designing, and finding materials. We were able to come up with a very strong design that kept a lot of the remaining furniture and finishes. By doing this we potentially saved the school a lot of money with the budget we were given. This design has an open concept feel with small breakout spaces to allow a comfortable and energizing work environment with bright colors and comfortable furniture.
WEBSITE DESIGN
Smokey Mountain Clothing Co.
2018
My client's clothing company is just starting off. The logo was created by the client and they needed help launching a website. I was able to create a website with photos of the clients friends wearing the clothing and incorporated a gallery of all the photos taken by the models. The website is easy to use, simple and cool.
